A veteran internet company that operates one of the world's largest CDNs.
A pioneer of the CDN business, it has expanded from content delivery into security services such as WAF and DDoS protection. Born out of an MIT research project in 1998, Akamai built a globally distributed network of hundreds of thousands of servers and is widely credited with essentially establishing the CDN business model itself -- caching website content close to users for delivery.
