The package format used on Debian-based systems, and its management command.
The command underlying Debian's package management, used to directly install or remove individual .deb packages. It doesn't resolve dependencies automatically, so in practice it's normally used through apt -- reaching for dpkg directly is mostly limited to cases like installing a single local .deb file.
