A protocol used for multicast routing.
Short for Protocol Independent Multicast. A routing protocol for building the delivery paths for multicast traffic. It has a dense mode (PIM-DM) and a sparse mode (PIM-SM); PIM-SM, which narrows paths based on receivers, is the mainstream choice for large networks.
