A fast, highly secure VPN protocol implemented with a small amount of code, also integrated into the Linux kernel. Where traditional IPsec or OpenVPN implementations run tens of thousands of lines of code, WireGuard's codebase is roughly 4,000 lines -- a difference in scale that translates directly into fewer vulnerabilities and an easier codebase to audit.
