Biometric Authentication

English

Overview

An authentication method that verifies identity using physical traits such as a fingerprint or face.

Details

An authentication method using biological traits -- fingerprint, face, iris, and so on. It doesn't depend on something you have or know, but managing biometric data requires its own particular care. Balancing two metrics -- the false acceptance rate (FAR), which measures wrongly authenticating an impostor, and the false rejection rate (FRR), which measures wrongly rejecting the real user -- is the core challenge in tuning accuracy.
