A mechanism for assigning permissions on resources based on roles.
Short for Role-Based Access Control. Built-in roles (Reader, Contributor, Owner, and so on) or custom roles can be assigned per user, group, or resource. The assignment scope can be specified at the subscription, resource-group, or individual-resource level.
