Overview

A command for checking and repairing a file system's consistency.

Details

A command that inspects a file system's consistency, detecting and repairing corrupted sections, run after events such as an unclean shutdown. On most distributions it can't safely run against a mounted file system, so checking an active area like the root file system requires rebooting into single-user mode or similar first.
