Capturing and analyzing the packets flowing across a network.
Recording the packets passing through a network interface and performing detailed protocol analysis. Used together with tools such as Wireshark to investigate the cause of communication problems. On a switched network, a port normally sees only its own traffic, so capturing traffic from other ports requires configuring a mirror port (SPAN port) as well.
