Overview

An attack where a third party inserts itself between two communicating parties to eavesdrop on or tamper with the traffic.

Details

Commonly abbreviated MITM. Techniques used include ARP spoofing and setting up a fake public Wi-Fi access point. HTTPS (encryption via TLS and server certificate verification) plays an important role in defending against this kind of attack.
