Cloud Security

Shadow IT

English

Overview

IT services or devices that employees have adopted and use on their own, without the knowledge or approval of the IT department.

Details

Typical examples include personally contracted cloud storage or free chat tools, often adopted to boost individual productivity, but because they fall outside official security controls and monitoring, they raise the risk of data leaks. A CASB is also used as a way to gain visibility into shadow IT usage.
