Overview

A mechanism that checks whether an IPv6 address is already in use on the same segment.

Details

Short for Duplicate Address Detection. A mechanism that checks for duplication on the same link before an address is put into use. If a duplicate is found, the address moves from a tentative state to a duplicate state and can't be used; under SLAAC, the device then tries generating a different interface ID instead.
