Global IP Address

English

Overview

An IP address uniquely identified on the internet.

Details

An IP address assigned uniquely, without duplication, across the entire internet, and advertised over routes. Due to IPv4 address exhaustion, many environments use it only indirectly via NAT. Allocation flows hierarchically from IANA down through regional RIRs (Regional Internet Registries), so an address can't simply be chosen at will.
