A protocol that distributes MPLS label information between adjacent routers.
Short for Label Distribution Protocol. A protocol that distributes and synchronizes the mapping between labels and FECs (forwarding equivalence classes) between adjacent routers. Besides LDP's automatic label assignment, there's also RSVP-TE, which assigns labels while explicitly specifying bandwidth and path -- the latter is used for traffic engineering.
