A technology commonly used in carrier networks that uses labels to determine routes quickly.
Short for Multiprotocol Label Switching. A technology that forwards packets quickly based on short labels instead of looking up an IP address each time. Used as a core technology in carrier networks. A label is attached to the front of a packet, and each router along the path forwards it to the next hop by consulting only that label, never the IP header -- sparing core routers from redoing complex route lookups on every packet.
