A protocol for monitoring and managing the state of network devices.
Short for Simple Network Management Protocol. A management protocol for retrieving device status and changing settings, exchanging information defined in a MIB. Versions 1 and 2c authenticate with a plaintext community string, which risks eavesdropping and spoofing, so version 3, with stronger encryption and authentication, is recommended.
