A switch installed at the top of a rack that houses the servers.
Short for Top of Rack switch. A leaf-level switch installed at the top of a rack that houses the servers within that rack. Keeping switching self-contained within each rack lets inter-rack wiring collapse down to just a few uplinks to the spine, dramatically cutting the total cabling needed across a data center.
