A technology that increases capacity by sending multiple wavelengths of light through a single fiber.
Short for Wavelength Division Multiplexing. A technology that multiplexes optical signals of different wavelengths onto the same fiber, greatly increasing transmission capacity. It splits broadly into CWDM, which multiplexes a smaller number of wavelengths (up to around 18), and DWDM, which packs in far more (40 or more) at higher density; DWDM is the one mainly used for long-haul, high-capacity transmission.
