A protocol used in IPsec to safely exchange encryption keys.
Short for Internet Key Exchange. A protocol that securely exchanges and establishes encryption keys ahead of IPsec communication. There are versions 1 and 2; IKEv2 supports faster reconnection. Negotiation happens in two phases: phase 1 establishes an IKE SA that protects IKE itself, and phase 2 establishes the IPsec SA that protects the actual traffic.
