VPN

PPTP

English

Overview

A tunneling protocol commonly used in early VPNs; now deprecated due to security weaknesses.

Details

Short for Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol. A tunneling protocol that was widely adopted early on, but now deprecated because its encryption method has known vulnerabilities. It authenticates with MS-CHAPv2, which has since been shown to be crackable, and most major operating systems have now dropped support for PPTP entirely.
