A metric expressing the maximum amount of data that can be transmitted in a given time.
Usually expressed in bps (bits per second), it shows the theoretical maximum capacity of a link or interface. The speed actually achieved (throughput) is capped by bandwidth and is often lower still due to congestion and latency.
