Setting and restricting the upper limit of available bandwidth for a specific traffic type or user. Used to prevent a particular application from monopolizing a link and squeezing out other traffic. Broadly, there are two approaches: reserving a guaranteed amount of bandwidth, or capping only the excess through shaping or policing.
