A number identifying an autonomous system (an organization-level network) on the internet.
A number that uniquely identifies an autonomous system (a network with its own independent routing policy). Typically assigned per ISP or large organization; BGP route advertisements carry the sequence of AS numbers a route has traversed (the AS path), which is used for loop detection and preference decisions.
