A router configured as a partner for exchanging route information over BGP.
A peer router with which a BGP session is established to exchange route information. The session uses TCP port 179, and both sides must configure each other as neighbors in advance. The configuration must be made on both sides -- if only one side is set up, the session never reaches the Established state and route exchange never begins.
