An attribute showing which autonomous systems a route has passed through, also used for loop detection.
A BGP attribute listing the AS numbers a route has traversed. It informs route selection and is also used for loop detection. When multiple routes exist to the same destination, the one with the shorter AS path is preferred -- playing a role similar to hop count in an IGP.
