A protocol that establishes a PPP connection over Ethernet to handle authentication and IP address assignment.
Short for Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet. It has long been the primary method for connecting to an ISP over fiber (FTTH) internet in Japan, but because every connection must pass through a network termination device, speeds can degrade as the number of users grows—a problem driving a shift toward the IPoE method.
