The central backbone area in OSPF to which all other areas connect.
The central backbone area in OSPF's hierarchical structure. Other areas generally communicate through Area 0. For a site that can't connect directly to Area 0, a workaround called a virtual link lets it tunnel through an existing area to reach Area 0 logically.
