A protocol that detects link failures at millisecond speed.
Short for Bidirectional Forwarding Detection. A protocol that continuously verifies reachability to a neighboring device faster than a routing protocol's own detection mechanism. Combined with BGP or OSPF to speed up failure detection and route switchover.
