Details

Short for Designated Router. A designated router elected on an OSPF multi-access network. It consolidates adjacencies and streamlines LSA exchange. Once a DR is elected, every other router (DROTHER) only needs to form an adjacency with the DR and BDR, cutting down dramatically from the n(n-1)/2 adjacencies that would otherwise be needed among n routers.
