Short for Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol. A Cisco-proprietary IGP that combines characteristics of distance-vector and link-state protocols, notable for fast convergence via the DUAL algorithm. It calculates its metric from bandwidth and delay by default, and it's designed to run only between Cisco devices.
