A backup static route that normally isn't used, activating only when the primary route fails.
A static route configured with a higher administrative distance than normal, becoming active only when the primary route fails. For example, configuring a backup static route with AD 200 alongside a normal OSPF route (AD 110) means the static route only kicks in once the OSPF route is lost.
