A long-established distance-vector routing protocol based on hop count.
Short for Routing Information Protocol. An early distance-vector routing protocol that uses hop count as its only metric. Unsuited to large networks. It broadcasts its full routing table every 30 seconds, and a route is considered invalid if it hasn't been refreshed within 180 seconds.
