A protocol that makes a virtual default gateway redundant across multiple routers.
Short for Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol. A standard protocol in which multiple routers share a virtual IP and virtual MAC address to achieve default-gateway redundancy. The router with the highest priority becomes master and responds to the virtual IP; if the master fails, a backup automatically takes over. Priority is set in the range 0-255.
